What are the colors of our lives for 2011? According to color authority Pantone Inc. and paint maker Benjamin Moore & Co., we will be turning a decorating eye to hues that speak of optimism, home and garden, balance and hope.
The Pantone Color of the Year for 2011 is a ‘”festive reddish pink” called Honeysuckle. According to Pantone, the color “elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet challenges that are part of everyday life.”
The Benjamin Moore's 2011 Color Forecast reflects social, cultural, political conditions that influence design trends. The company identified four themes that are translated into colors you may want to incorporate into your remodeling projects.
The Farm: Turning to hearth and home for comfort makes sense. The color palettes here include earthy browns, butter yellow tones, milk white shades and colors reminiscent of farm fresh products – tomato, pumpkin, green. Farm-influenced wood looks will be bleached and natural.
Order: The uncertainty of recent times has brought a desire for order, form and balance to the forefront. Benjamin Moore translates this need into color schemes that pair bright primary colors with black, white and gray tones. Patterns are orderly: geometric shapes, crisp stripes, dots and spirals.
Escape: The quest for hope and escape from harsh realities prompted the paint maker to turn to more dreamlike frosted, opalescent colors as its Escape theme. Metallic finishes and soft textures are featured as part of this kinder, gentler look.
Tribe: Similar to the farm theme, Tribe takes us back to our roots. Colors that suggest the land and community include berry, cinnamon, saffron and fiery orange, bronzes and charcoals. Accessories will feature patterns, stencils, hand embroidery and beading.
