“One day you’re in. And the next day you’re out.” So says supermodel Heidi Klum talking about fashion design. And when it comes to kitchen design, the same is true – sort of.
The white kitchen has taken a back seat in recent years to wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances and bright colors on counters, walls and furnishings.
But fear not. White is back – in a number of new guises. White doesn’t have to mean country kitchen or formal French style. It can be modern, sophisticated urban or minimalist. In other words, the white kitchen of 2010 can be just as individual as you are.
Here are some ideas to get you started.
Create a modern look in white.
A modern kitchen calls for a very white white, designers say. Eggshell and cream shades will evoke a more classic, country or traditional feel.
Think clean lines. Unclutter counters by keeping small appliances and kitchen tools neatly stored. If you like sleek, keep colors to a minimum. Combine white cabinets with shades of black, gray and stainless for your walls, appliances, counters and floors.
Use the drama of contrast.
Try white as the accent, or white as the main focus with rich wood tones and bright colors. Either effect can be stunning. If your basic white kitchen is looking a bit tired or just blah, consider a new cabinet style. Or maybe it’s time to replace your old all-white kitchen island with a cherry wood model that provides more under-counter storage and creates a nice counterpoint to the rest of the white cabinetry.
There is no end to. the way you can make white very 2010 in your luxury kitchen
