Is your Cabinetry Built to Last?

06.02.2010

In today’s world, when words like “sustainable”, “green”, and “eco-friendly” are thrown around during every type of conversation, many home owners begin to think about the design of their home, and that includes their storage spaces like cabinets, shelves and drawers.

In order to fit your home design into the headings of sustainable or green, you need to take into consideration the quality and time put into the products you intend to purchase, before they leave the manufacturer.

Since their beginnings, the design and materials used in each Neff of Chicago cabinet, shelf or drawer has always fit under the “green” header, long before it became vogue. Their luxury cabinetry is made of innovative and highly-durable materials allowing for longer life and lasting beauty.

Sustainable Design

In order to meet sustainability standards, the durability of your cabinetry needs to extend long beyond the average product in the industry. While carefully selecting components to provide long lasting durability, Neff of Chicago focuses on several aspects of their cabinets’ construction:

  • Neff materials are engineered for long life in the most humid coastal or tropical environments to prevent warping, expansion and peeling
  • Exterior-grade, marine quality plywood
  • Supplemental materials such as MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), E1 grade particle board, and other superior, engineered wood products are used according to finish and shape requirements
  • Neff selects marine-quality plywood and E1 grade particle board made with phenol-based resin which is free of the VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) off-gassing caused by the urea formaldehyde in cheaper and more commonly used resins and glues
  • Neff uses steel dowels, not glues, which can emit VOC’s

Compliant with new CARB (California Air Resources Board) regulations for the elimination of Formaldehyde in the manufacture of engineered woods.

Beautiful Décor

On par with the durability of your cabinetry, to be truly eco-friendly, consideration has to be made for the finish that is applied to your cabinetry. Many cabinets in the industry use formaldehyede-based finishes for their cabinetry, which is not only toxic , but breaks down more quickly than those without the chemical.

Some notes about the Neff of Chicago cabinet finishes:

  • Acrylic Polyurethane (Low VOC and Urea Formaldehyde Free)
  • Fewer than 20% of cabinet manufacturers use this premium finish which is less prone to drying and cracking and has significantly less VOC emissions than lacquer which is more broadly used in the industry
  • Used by the world’s finest auto and airplane manufacturers for durability and color protection
  • Stainless Steel
  • Neff uses high gauge, surgical grade, non-magnetic #304 steel for its interior cabinets and kitchen finishes

When shopping for truly “green” cabinetry that will stay as beautiful and functional as the day it was purchased, turn to Neff of Chicago’s custom line of luxury cabinetry.
