Discover Your Kitchen Style

12.23.2010

Ask people what they want their kitchen to look like and a common answer will be “to reflect my style.”  Kitchens today are definitely not “one size” or one “look” fits all. They are as individual as the home or condo owner, providing a window into personal design preferences.  So, what’s your signature style?

If you use words like geometric, clean lines or linear to describe cabinetry that makes you smile, chances are contemporary will be your top choice. Other attributes of this style are little ornamentation and exposed structural elements, including legs. Colors in contemporary kitchens tend to be neutrals, black and white with bold colors used as accents and high gloss finishes.

Do you favor warm colors, darker wood stains, matte finishes and subdued tones? Sounds like traditional is your cup of tea. Detailing such as carvings, moldings, pilasters, pediments and finials complete a classic look.

Are you most comfortable with a “one from Column A and one from Column B” approach to kitchen design?  Transitional will probably be your choice. This style is often described as the intersection of traditional and contemporary.  Lines are clean and ornamentation is minimal as in a contemporary look, but transitional is perhaps not as stark. You may find stainless steel mixed with wood tones and eclectic pieces added into the mix.

Like traditional, the colors used in transitional design tend to be warmer.

When clients require help coordinating the elements of their design and making it all come together, the talented Neff Kitchen & Bath Design Team will be happy to come up with options. For those who are not working with interior designers, Neff can connect customers to some of the city’s leading design boutiques for flooring, wall color, fixtures, hardware, countertops, backsplashes, range hoods and appliances.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, you will want to check out the Photo Gallery, and decide whether you are a Classic Traditional, an Avant-garde Contemporary or a Timeless Transitional.
